EuroVelo 9 Slovenia
EuroVelo 9, also known as the Baltic–Adriatic cycling route, is one of Europe’s most important long-distance cycling routes, connecting the Baltic Sea with the Adriatic coast. The Slovenian section begins at the Austrian border near Šentilj and continues through northeastern Slovenia, passing through Maribor and Ljubljana before reaching the Slovenian coast and continuing toward Croatia or Italy. The route offers a diverse mix of rolling wine hills, rivers, historic towns, and Mediterranean atmosphere, making it an excellent choice for exploring Slovenia by bike. The Slovenian part of EuroVelo 9 passes through several scenic regions, including the Slovenske Gorice hills, the Drava River valley, and central Slovenia. Along the way, cyclists can visit historic cities such as Maribor and Ljubljana, enjoy local cuisine, and discover Slovenia’s rich cultural heritage. Parts of the route follow dedicated cycling paths, while other sections use quiet local roads, making it suitable for both recreational and experienced cyclists.
